Commercialization of High-performance Catalyst for Green Hydrogen Production

Water-splitting combined with renewable energy sources is considered as the most promising pathway to produce “clean (or green)” hydrogen with zero-emission. The U.S. Department of Energy is supporting the research and development of advanced technologies for production of clean hydrogen, with a goal of reducing production cost to $1 per kg by 2030 (https://www.energy.gov/eere/fuelcells/hydrogen-shot). One of the key bottlenecks is the lack of high throughput production of cost-efficient and sustainable catalysts that can maximize conversion energy efficiency. This project is evaluating the potential of high-performance water-splitting catalysts with a goal toward commercialization and high throughput production. A strategic commercialization plan will be architected based on technical and market analysis.
